In a remarkable story of shared faith and purpose, twin students Campbell and Abbey Diffendall have each earned Knott Scholarships at Loyola University Maryland, marking a celebratory achievement not only for their family, but for our entire community.
From their earliest days in the classroom at Cathedral of Mary Our Queen through their time at Notre Dame Prep, the twins have been known for their strong work ethic, compassionate hearts, and unwavering commitment to their faith. “Our entire academic journey thus far has been faith-based and one that has proven to be fulfilling beyond the textbooks and uniforms,” shares Abbey. As members of the Class of 2029, Abbey is a biology major on the pre-med track and Campbell is a double business economics and finance major. Campbell said, “We were overwhelmed with our college decision, and we prayed that God would give us a sign. The phone call from Loyola came right before we had to make our college choice. The Knott Scholarship was a major deciding factor. All our hard work was finally noticed and paying off. This was the sign we needed.” Now mid-way through their freshman year, they love Loyola and continue to know this is the place for them.
“Being a Knott Scholar is awesome. We have met more people than we planned in really great and fun ways. We see other Knott Scholars on campus and it feels like we have a little family on campus. They have quickly become more than familiar faces,” Abbey shared.
As they continue with this collegiate chapter of their education, the twins carry with them the lessons and values that have shaped them. While their college paths are still forming, their shared foundation of faith and family will remain a constant source of strength. Campbell said, “Although we are close to home, we must figure out who we are without our parents. Being a Knott Scholar is a constant reminder that my Catholic faith shapes who I am.”
Indeed, this is a moment of double celebration—and double the blessings.
